IOC bans Russian bobsledders and speed skaters over doping in Sochi

LEAD:

The International Olympic Committee has banned two Russian bobsledders and two speed skaters for life from the Olympics over doping violations at the 2014 Sochi Games.  The IOC said it had voided the athletes' results from the Sochi Games.  As a result Russia has lost its top place in an unofficial medal count table at the Sochi Games. Zimbabwe swears in new leader

Zimbabwe has sworn in a new leader after the end of Robert Mugabe's 37 year reign


Crowds have gathered the capital Harare for the inauguration of Emerson M-nan-gag-wa - the former Vice President.


It comes following an intervention by the ruling Zanu PF party and the army to force Mr Mugabe to stand down.


Zimbabwean Robin Brown, who now lives in the UK, believes this could be the beginning of an era of change for the country.

May Expected to Commit to European Security in Brussels

Husband of British-Iranian woman jailed in Iran says she faces further charges

The husband of a British-Iranian woman jailed in Iran has said she will appear in court in December to faces charges of "spreading propaganda". 

Richard Ratcliffe says his wife Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who had lived in London before being arrested whilst on holiday in Iran, has been informed she will appear in court on December the 10th.

Olympic Gymnastics Doctor faces life behind bars

The former USA Gymnastics Olympic team doctor, has pleaded guilty to
criminal sexual conduct, including offenses against young girls.

It comes after more than a hundred alleged victims reported assaults
against Larry Nassar - including several members of the USA's winning
teams from the last two Olympic games.

It's likely he'll be jailed for the rest of his life.

UK GROWTH FORECASTS DOWNGRADED AMID BREXIT TALKS

The UK's economic growth forecasts have been downgraded as it negotiates its exit from the European Union.

Official estimates now expect GDP of 1.5% this year - down from a previous prediction of 2%, dropping to 1.3% by 2020.

However, UK finance minister Philip Hammond has unveiled extra spending on the country's health service, and promised to oversee the building of hundreds of thousands of new homes.

UN: North Korea violated border truce chasing defector
