WHO publishes first-ever drug-resistant superbug threat list

The World Health Organization has published its first-ever list of the most dangerous antibiotic-resistant superbugs. 


It wants government and researchers to use the list to help spur a global response to preventing and treating superbugs that pose the greatest threat to human health.

White House on Congress speech, Russia and Yemen

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer says President Donald Trump will lay out an "optimistic vision" for America when he outlines his agenda in a speech on Tuesday.

In his first address to Congress, Mr Spicer said president will detail reforms on tax, healthcare and education.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has dismissed the need for a special prosecutor to investigate possible contact between President Donald Trump's aides and Russia.

Last week it was reported that White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus asked the FBI to publicly dismiss reports about alleged contact between Trump associates and Moscow.

When pressed about the allegations, Mr Spicer said "there's nothing there".

The White House says The Pentagon is conducting at least three reviews of the raid in Yemen last month that left one US Navy Seal dead.

The father of Chief William Owens has called for a more serious probe into his son's death.

Fears for civilians as ISIS attacked in Mosul

Iraqi government forces are claiming important military gains against the self-declared Islamic State group in the city of Mosul.
The US-backed Iraqi army says it's taken a key bridge across the Tigris River, enabling an assault on ISIS-held territory.
But as our Washington correspondent John Clarke reports, there are fears for the safety of hundreds of thousands of civilians in the city.

More bomb threats at US Jewish centers

At least eight Jewish centers in the United States have been evacuated
after receiving bomb threats.
It comes after police in Philadelphia announced that over 100
headstones had been vandalized at a Jewish cemetery.

UN report claims North Korea ran arms op out of Malaysia

North Korea has been running an arms operation out of Malaysia, according to a United Nations report.


The unreleased report, seen by Reuters news agency, claimed that North Korean intelligence agents had run a front company to sell battlefield radio equipment in violation of international law.

Lawmakers investigate Trump, Russia connections

The chair of the U.S. House of Representatives intelligence committee says he's not on a witch hunt, but he also has not ruled anything out when it comes to questions about contacts between campaigns and the Russian government.

U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters he hasn't called Russia in a decade, but reporters were quick to point out, he travelled to Russia for the Miss Universe pageant in 2013.

Committee chair Representative Devin Nunes says he's ruled nothing out as his committee investigates whether there were improper contacts between Moscow and American presidential campaigns.

Pres. Trump calls for $54 billion US defense hike


Donald Trump's first budget as President will call for a $54 billion dollar boost to defense spending - a 10 percent hike.

Mr Trump had campaigned on rebuilding what he called America's depleted military.

Hungary Builds Second Fence on its Border with Serbia

Hungary has begun building a second fence along its southern border with Serbia to prevent migrants from entering the country.

Over a hundred headstones damaged at Jewish cemetery

A number of headstones have been vandalized at a Jewish cemetery in
the U.S. city of Philadelphia.

A similar incident occurred several days ago elsewhere in the country
and a number of Jewish centers have also received bomb threats in

Father of US commando killed in Yemen refused to meet Trump

The father of a US navy seal killed in a raid in Yemen last month said he refused to meet with President Trump on the day his son's body was returned home.

The raid - approved by Donald Trump just six days into his presidency - is also believed to have killed several civilians, including children.

William Owens - the father of Chief Petty Officer Owens - told The Miami Herald the government owes his son an investigation.

Trump Budget ‘To Cut Funds to State Department and EPA’

The White House is set to send a budget proposal to federal departments that will increase spending on defence but cut the money for the State Department and Environmental Protection Agency - that's according to the Reuters news agency.

It quotes two anonymous officials, who said that the plans would see the Pentagon get more money for shipbuilding and aircraft.

South Korea strikes deal on controversial missile defense site

UK Child Abuse Inquiry begins first public hearing

A UK inquiry into child sexual abuse is holding its first public hearing after it was set up in 2014.


The Inquiry was set up after the death of television personality Jimmy Savile, when allegations that he abused hundreds of people as children came forward.


But the work has been dogged by controversy and placed in the hands of four separate charwomen since  its launch.

Armenia and Azerbaijan urged to step back from fighting after weekend violence

European and US officials are calling on Armenia and Azerbaijan to step back from fighting as fresh conflict has broken out in Europe's oldest ongoing war.
