Several hundred people remain in Calais camp, say aid workers

Several hundred people - including at least a hundred unaccompanied children - remain inside the 'Jungle' camp in Calais, aid workers say, despite French officials declaring it empty on Wednesday.
The government says nearly 6000 people have been moved to reception centres around France.

Deutsche Bank posts surprise profit

Deutsche Bank surprised analysts by posting a third quarter profit, although there are still major concerns about an upcoming settlement with the United States Justice Department.

The German lender had lost about forty one percent of its market value this year.

Aleppo: UN Security Council Told 'You Have To Choose To Make It Stop'

The UN Humanitarian Affairs chief has called on members of the UN Security Council who have military assets in Syria to stop the bombing of civilian areas.

It came during his regular briefing to the council on the humanitarian situation in the war torn country, which saw angry reactions and strong language from Russia and the US.

Mr. O'Brien said it was up to Security Council members to come together to stop the violence, especially in Aleppo:

Iraqi forces make slow progress on Mosul

Islamic State fighters kept up their defence of southern Mosul, holding up Iraqi troops attempts to recapture the city.

Around one and a half million residents remain in the city, the last major Iraqi stronghold under control of the militant group.

Ten days into the intense ground offensive by Iraqi forces, US State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said coalition forces were pleased with the progress.

UN again adopts resolution to end US embargo on Cuba; US abstains from vote for first time

The United Nations has once again overwhelmingly adopted a resolution condemning the US embargo on Cuba, by a vote of 191 countries in favor, none against, and 2 abstentions.


For the first time in the history of what has become an annual UN vote, the US has abstained rather than objected to the resolution.

Duterte calls for US to exit the Philippines

Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte says that he wants all foreign troops out of his country within "maybe two years".

He also said he was willing to stop hosting US military bases in the Philippines.

RECORDING LEAKED OF MAY EU COMMENTS

A leaked recording suggests British Prime Minister Theresa May was privately warning of an exodus of firms from the UK if it left the EU.

The Guardian newspaper says she was taped telling bankers at Goldman Sachs that Britain was better off staying in the EU for economic and security reasons.

The remarks on the 26th May appear to go far further than Theresa May was willing to in public ahead of the June Brexit referendum.

US, Chinese Companies Partner To Improve Self-Driving Car Tech
