German court rules against niqab in school

A regional German court turned down a woman's request to wear a full face veil while attending a night school for adults. 

The case comes amidst a nationwide discussion about a possible ban on face coverings in a variety of public areas, including schools.

Moscow says future use of Iranian air base depends on circumstances in Syria

LEAD:

Russia's Defence Ministry said that further use of the Iranian base by the Russian airforce will depend on the situation in Syria.  This comes after Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that Russia stopped using the base near Hamadan for strikes in Syria. Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Top Irish delegates to be questioned over ticket-scandal

Three senior Olympic Council of Ireland officials will be questioned by police in Rio on Tuesday as part of the widening investigation into an alleged ticketing scam...

US West Coast Wildfires Still Burning

Firefighters in Washington State are battling fast moving wildfires
that are destroying homes and forcing hundreds of people to evacuate.
Three blazes were sparked over the weekend, as tens of thousands of
evacuees in neighboring California returned to charred neighborhoods.

US Extends Condolences Upon Death of ex-President of Singapore

The United States has extended its condolences upon the death of former Singaporean President S R Nathan.

The 92 year-old passed away peacefully at Singapore General Hospital three weeks after suffering a stroke.

He was the longest serving President of the country  and played a pivotal role in foreign and domestic policy.

Continuing email headache for Hillary Clinton

The U.S. Justice Department found nearly 15,000 additional emails sent or received by Hillary Clinton during it's investigation into her use of a private email server while she was U.S. Secretary of State.

She has said she's turned over everything that was not personal, about 30,000 emails in all.

Iran ends Russian use of airbase

Iran has ended access to the Russian military to one of the air bases from which Moscow was launching airstrikes against Syria.

Iranian defense minister, Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan accused the Russians of showing off, and attempting to appear to be a super power.

With the seige of Aleppo getting worse, in Washington, the U.S. military urged Russia to focus on actually cooperating.

White House rejects criticism over response to Louisiana floods

The White House is rejecting criticism that it has failed to respond adequately to the massive flooding in Lousiana.

U.S. President Barack Obama is set to visit Baton Rouge, but U.S. officials have indicated, they do not want his visit to detract from rescue and recovery efforts.

More than 100,000 homes were damaged in what's being described as biblical flooding, and more rain in a few days than Hurrican Katrina.

Secretary Kerry: South Sudan Needs U.N. Protection Force ASAP

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and counterparts from six African nations are redoubling efforts to prevent South Sudan from sliding back into civil war.

They’re meeting in Nairobi, discussing the planned deployment of extra United Nations troops to the East African country.

As U.S. Correspondent Rachel Silverman reports, the US Secretary of State says the new protection force needs to be deployed as soon as possible.

North Korea threatens US, South Korea as joint military drills begin

North Korea is threatening to turn South Korea and the United States into a — and I quote — "heap of ashes through a Korean-style pre-emptive nuclear strike."

The threat comes as South Korea and the US are kicking off a 12-day military exercise, and as word comes that Pyongyang had resumed plutonium production earlier this year.

Counter-terrorism tops agenda for VP Biden trip to Turkey

Turkey is now walking-back a claim that the suicide bomber who killed more than 50 at a wedding was a child aged 12 to 14.

Over 100,000 Louisianans apply for federal flood relief

Over 100,000 victims of the Louisiana floods have registered for federal aid.

The federal government has provided $30 million dollars to repair or replace damaged or destroyed homes.

Donald Trump says the Clinton Foundation must be shut down.

When Hillary Clinton was nominated to be U.S. Secretary of State, the Clinton's promised the Foundation's work would be utterly separate.

However, emails from her staff have indicated there were some attempts to connect big donors to the Foundation to U.S. officials.

The Clinton campaign has said, if Hillary Clinton wins, the Foundation will operate in a different way.

Toxic levels of drugs in Prince's body

No one could have survived the amount of fentanyl in Prince's body at the time he died.

Extremists in UK to be put in special prison units


The UK government will introduce special units in prisons in an attempt to stop extremists from spreading their views across the main prison population.
