Owen Smith to launch Labour Leadership Challenge

Owen Smith, the UK's former shadow work and pensions secretary is expected to announce plans to stand in the Labour leadership contest.


The MP will be the second ex-shadow cabinet member to launch a challenge against Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Theresa May to become new UK Prime Minister on Wednesday

Theresa May will become the UK's new Prime Minister today (Wednesday 13th)...

Her appointment comes after a dramatic few weeks in British politics, which has seen the UK vote to leave the European Union and out-going leader David Cameron resign.

Theresa May - who campaigned for the UK to stay within the EU - now has the task of negotiating Britain's exit from the Union as well as appointment her new Cabinet.

Cameron steps aside as May takes helm


Wednesday marks the final day of British Prime Minister David Cameron in office, as he steps aside in the wake of the UK’s Brexit vote to leave the European Union. 

Incoming Prime Minister Theresa May, who has recently held the post of Home Secretary, must now chose a new government to support her as she faces the  daunting challenge if implementing Brexit.   From London, Catherine Drew reports.

THERESA MAY TO BECOME UK PM

Theresa May will become the UK’s second ever female Prime Minister later (Wednesday).

She replaces David Cameron who is stepping down after Britain voted to leave the European Union.

Theresa May won the race to become leader of the governing Conservative Party and therefore also takes over at Downing Street.

She’ll have to lead the process to take Britain out of the EU.

President Obama speaks at memorial for Dallas police officers

President Barack Obama has led tributes to five Dallas police officers killed during a sniper attack last week.

He told a memorial service that the United States must "reject despair" at a time of heightened racial tensions across the country.

UK Labour Leader Corbyn Qualifies For Ballot

Britain's opposition Labour Party is allowing its current leader Jeremy Corbyn to be  automatically included in the leadership contest. 

Corbyn has been challenged for the leadership by former shadow minister Angela Eagle.

Some argued  that he needed support from at least 51 Members of Parliament and Members of the European Parliament to qualify for the ballot.

Venezuela to Seize Kimberly Clark Factory


The Venezuelan government says it plans to seize a factory belonging to the U.S. personal care company Kimberly Clark. 

The company says after almost two decades in Venezuela, it’s suspending production there because of the country’s current economic and political crisis.

The Obama administration is welcoming the ruling at the Hague, which upheld the Philippines in it's dispute with China.

US backs Hague ruling on South China Sea

An important contribution - that's how The U.S. state department has described an international tribunal ruling which found China has no legal right to territorial claims South China Sea.

The International Court of Arbitration in the Hague ruled China has no rights to territories it claims in Sea.

The decision came after The Philippines took China to the court in 2013 over what Manilla viewed as a violations of it's sovereignty.

Fresh fighting in Aleppo sparks United Nations concern

At least 20 dead after Italian train crash
