Corpse found with ‘cement shoes’

The New York Police Department say they have found the body of a man
with his feet encased in concrete.

Authorities believe Peter Martinez was a gang member but crime
historians say the nature of the death is more like a work of fiction.

Obama commutes sentences of 58 convicts


US President Barack Obama on Thursday commuted the prison sentences of nearly 60 convicts, giving them a second chance in life.


Most of the convicts were incarcerated over non-violent drug offenses.

US, Turkey to continue to work together

The White House is indicating that it will continue to work with Turkey's government following the departure of Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

He's reportedly leaving due to a rift with President Erdogan, and the U.S. has repeatedly expressed it's concern about the direction of Turkey's democracy.

When it comes to the fight against the Islamic State, White House spokesman Josh Earnest says Washington and Ankara will continue to cooperate.

Dozens killed in Syrian airstrike on refugee camp

It has not been confirmed if it was Syrian government fighter jets or Russian jets which dropped bombs on a refugee camp near the Turkish border.

The U.S. and Russia had worked to extend a cessation of hostilities more broadly across Syria, including Aleppo and Eastern Ghouta, but deadly violations contined.

In Washington, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the Obama administration wants to see the violence stop.

Trump not likely to start receiving classified briefings

The White House is awaiting approval from the American intelligence community before granting classified briefings to Donald Trump, the presumed Republican nominee.

Traditionally, American presidential candidates start receiving regular briefings once they are formally the nominee, after the party conventions.

Donald Trump has said all sorts of things about foreign policy and international relations, and White House spokesman Josh Earnest indicated, he's not likely to receive those briefings any time soon.

Canadian officials hopeful over Alberta fire

Officials in Canada are expressing cautious optimism that they're slowly overcoming a massive wildfire in Alberta.


A state of emergency forced the evacuation of 80 thousand people from Fort McMurray and more than a thousand firefighters have been battling the blaze in a region that is home to Canada's oil sands industry.


Rachel Notley is the Premier of Alberta, and she told reporters that it's tough to predict when the blaze may be brought under control.

Republican Party staff members in Washington have been warned to give Donald Trump their backing for the US Presidency, or else leave their jobs.

French police open fire in deadly high-speed car chase

A British registered car has been involved in a high-speed chase with police who opened fire at the vehicle in France...

A number of accidents were caused during the chase across the Belgian border, before the Audi crashed near Dunkirk in northern France.

Thousands flee Alberta wildfires

All Eighty-eight thousand residents have been forced to flee Fort McMurray in Canada after a huge wildfire threatened to destroy the town.

A state of emergency has been declared in the province of Alberta. So far no deaths or injuries have been reported.

Top UK universities slip in world ranking

Ten of the UK's universities including Oxford and Cambridge have slipped down the top 100 rankings of the world's best institutions.

While universities in the US continue to dominate the Times Higher Education table, universities in Asia are catching up, with 10 new entries for this year.
