Morgan Stanley to pay US authorities $3.2 billion

Morgan Stanley is set to pay authorities in the United States the sum
of $3.2 billion for selling risky mortgages.

The bank has admitted it misrepresented the risk of mortgages it sold
prior to the financial crisis.

Kerry and Lavrov agree "cessation of hostilities" in Syria

A ceasefire will go into effect in Syrian in approximately one week's time, according the US Secretary of State John Kerry.


He was speaking in Munich after talks with the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov.

Oregon standoff ends

The standoff between FBI and local law enforcement and anti-government protestors at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon has ended after 40 days.

A state-level representative from Nevada and evangelist Franklin Graham travelled to Oregon to help convince the remaining demonstrators to leave.

Los Angeles Passes Bill To Tackle Homeless Crisis

Five months after declaring that homelessness in Los Angeles
California had reached emergency status, city leaders have passed a
1.87 billion dollar plan to help get an estimated 40,000 people off
the streets. Questions remain about where the money will come from,
but officials say Tuesday's vote marks the start of a new era for
fighting homelessness in the state.

Tamir Rice’s family charged for ambulance ride

The family of Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old shot dead by police in Cleveland in 2014, has been charged for his ambulance ride to the hospital.

The city filed an invoice of $500 to the child's family.

Brazil And University of Texas Reach Zika Vaccine Deal

The University of Texas has signed an agreement with the government of Brazil to develop a vaccine against the Zika virus.

The Brazilian health minister says the goal is for the vaccine to be ready for clinical trials within a year.

In huge scientific advance, physicists and astronomers record the sound of black holes colliding

Scientists in the United States say they have finally proved one of Einstein's theories and found direct evidence that when two black holes collide they create gravitational waves that bend the flow of time.

The discovery, revealed in Washington on Thursday, is being hailed as a huge scientific achievement.

Russia says US planes bombed Syria's Aleppo on Wednesday

LEAD:

Russia's Defence Ministry says that two US aircrafts had bombed the Syrian city of Aleppo on 10 February and that no Russian planes were operating in the area.  It comes in response to Pentagon's accusation that Russian and Syrian government forces destroyed Aleppo's two main hospitals with airstrikes. The US transport agency wants to restrict shipments of lithium-ion
batteries on planes over fears they could explode mid-flight.

EUROPEAN SHARES TUMBLE

European stock markets have been trading sharply lower as concerns persist about the health of the global economy.

Asian shares fell earlier, after comments from US Federal Reserve boss Janet Yellen which were gloomier than expected on the health of the American economy.

Firms like miner Rio Tinto and French bank Societe Generale have been under pressure in European trade after disappointing financial results.
