Obama and Putin discuss Ukraine, Syria on telephone

The US President Barak Obama discussed with his Russian counterpart the Syrian conflict and the continuing tensions in eastern Ukraine. The two leaders called for de-escalation of tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia and for a strong response to North Korea's recent nuclear test launch. Daria Bondarchuk reports from Moscow.

LONDON GETS EXTRA ARMED POLICE FOR TERROR RESPONSE

Hundreds of extra armed police are to be trained to respond to the terror threat in London, in the wake of the Paris attacks.

Around 600 more are expected to receive firearms training, on top of the 2000 who've already had it.

London police have been reviewing their ability to respond a terror attack, following the deadly attacks in the French capital.

Winning ticket in record Powerball drawing

Lottery officials in the U.S. state of California say there is a winning ticket in Wednesday night's historic drawing for $1.6 billion dollars.

This will be the largest lottery pay-out ever, anywhere in the world; the jackpot rose to such a high figure after there had been no winner since early November.

Three people dead in blast near UN in Jakarta

A police kiosk has been the target of a bomb blast in central Jakarta with reports up to three people may have been killed including a foreign national.
Witnesses say they heard several explosions and local TV reports police exchanged gunfire on Jl Thamrin outside the Starbucks cafe.
There are reports at least five or six bomb blasts have been heard near the UN building.
Jeremy Douglas has told Australia's ABC he was returning to the UN building when the blasts went off.

Kerry says Iran nuclear deal implementation is imminent

US Secretary of State John Kerry says implementation day for the Iran nuclear deal is imminent. 
Such an announcement would mean the U.N. atomic energy watchdog has found Iran to have met its obligations to curb its nuclear program. It would then require the U.S. and other nations to suspend sanctions they have imposed on the Islamic republic.

Syrian Opposition Groups Demand Humanitarian Measures Ahead of UN Talks

Syrian opposition groups announced that they will refuse to take part
in UN-led peace talks if certain humanitarian measures aren't
implemented beforehand.

The dialogue, currently set to be held at the end of January, aims to
move the Syrian political process forward after the Security Council's

Water Emergency Declared in Flint, Michigan

John Kerry Comments on Release of US Navy Sailors

US Secretary of State John Kerry extended his thanks to Iranian officials for the quick release of 10 US Navy sailors.

The sailors who were aboard two Navy vessels traveled into Iranian waters whole moving from Kuwait to Bahrain.

Iran Releases American Sailors
