U.S., South Africa resolve AGOA differences over poultry imports

The U.S. and South Africa have resolved their long-standing issues over poultry imports which have prevented the full implementation of the recently renewed AGOA deal.

AGOA is the African Growth and Opportunity Act, intended to spur development in Africa, by fostering trade, but South Africa was threatened with being kicked out of the trade agreement if the chicken dispute could not be resolved.

Saudi, Iranian relations worsen

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran worsened after Tehran accused Riyadh of damaging the Iranian embassy in Yemen.

At the same time, for the United States, the two Middle Eastern powers are critical to the diplomatic process to resolve the crisis in Syria and the fight against the Islamic State.

Confirming that Syria talks are set to resume January 25 in Geneva, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also insists, the foreign ministers of both Saudi Arabia and Iran have promised him, their public differences will not impact the Syria peace process.

NYPD settles lawsuits over Muslim surveillance

New York's Police Department has agreed to settle a pair of lawsuits
that claimed Muslims were subjected to unjust surveillance and
investigations because of their religion.

REPORT: US in talks with South Korea over 'strategic weapons supply'


The US is in talks with South Korea over the possible deployment of weaponry to its border with the North, Reuters news agency reports.

The development comes just 24 hours after North Korea came under international condemnation after announcing it had successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb.

UN Library reveals most popular book on immunity from international crimes

The United Nations' library has announced the most popular
book checked out in 2015 was a thesis on diplomatic immunity from
international crimes.

US confirms two Guantanamo detainees relocated to Ghana

Two Yemeni prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba have been relocated to Ghana.

Ghana has granted Mahmud Omar Bin Atef and Khalid Al-Dhuby permission to stay there for two years subject to security clearance.

Iran accuses Saudi Arabia of Embassy attack in Yemen Capital



Iran has accused Saudi forces of firing missiles into the Iranian embassy in Yemen's capital on Thursday.  

Iran's foreign minister "strongly condemned" what he called a Saudi air strike on the Iranian embassy in Sana.  

The minister says the attack damaged the building and wounded a number of guards.  

Saudi officials say the strikes are targeting rebel-controlled missile launchers being used to fire rockets into Saudi Arabia.

US Stocks Slide Over China Fears

Ukrainians call for Coca-Cola boycott

Ukrainian social media users are calling for a boycott of the Coca-Cola company after it published a map of Russia which included the Crimean peninsula.

EUROPEAN STOCKS FALL OVER CHINA FEARS

Trading on Chinese mainland stock markets has been halted for the second time in 2016 after further sharp falls.

A new 'circuit-breaker', which is designed to ease volatility, kicked in within the first hour of trading.

Investors have not been reassured by the Chinese government's attempts to shore up the markets and encourage higher economic growth rates.
