CLIPS: Pres Obama defends ISIS strategy at G20 summit


The United States is adopting stronger intelligence sharing with France, the message from President Obama speaking at the G20 summit in Turkey.

The US leader used the platform to defend his military strategy against ISIS in Syria and Iraq and insisted that his policy of admitting 10000 more Syrian refugees would be unchanged by events in Paris.

Mr Obama said while the US has the finest military in the world that does not mean it should intervene on the ground in Syria...

French President Francois Hollande says resolve remains strong against IS

French President Francois Hollande is calling on the EU to protect its external borders in an address to both houses of the French Parliament at Versailles. 

He says he will also meet with US and Russian leaders in an effort to combine resources to destroy the Islamic State.

Obama says no strategy changes after France attacks

President Obama says there will be no change in the US strategy fighting towards Islamic State, despite Friday's attacks on Paris that left 129 people dead.


Speaking at the G20 in Turkey, he pledged to provide France with further intelligence co-operation, but said there were "no specific mentions" of any plan to attack Paris.


He said Islamic State is not "a traditional military opponent", and our Washington Correspondent Simon Marks says the President vowed only to intensify the existing strategy.

5 Guantanamo Bay detainees transferred to UAE

Five men from Yemen who were held at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for nearly 14 years have been transferred to UAE.

The transfers reduce the total population at the facility to 107.

Belgian-born Abdelhamid Abaaoud named mastermind behind Paris attacks

French authorities have identified Belgian-born Abdelhamid Abaaoud as the mastermind of the attacks in Paris. 

Abaaoud was also involved in the failed train attack in August where gunman opened fire on a train headed from Amsterdam to Paris via Brussels.

France conducts raids on suspected extremists

Authorities have carried out 150 raids across France on suspected extremists in the wake of the Paris attacks of Friday night which killed 129.

Russia to clean up its act after national Athletics Federation's suspension

Russian sports officials pledged to reform its national Athletics Federation and ensure its honest athletes not involved in doping scandal could perform at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. France bombs IS targets in Syria in response to Paris attacks

France has launched a series of airstrikes on the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa (Ra-Ka) in Syria.

It's a response to the deadly attacks in the French capital Paris on Friday night which killed over 130 people and has left many others in a critical condition.

Police in Paris have found three Kalashnikov rifles thought to be used in attacks

Police in Paris have found three Kalashnikov rifles in an abandoned car believed to have been used by Friday night's attackers.
