Over 8 year sentence for American-Iranian man charged with violating the US Arms Export Control Act.

A United States judge has handed down an 8 year-plus, sentence to an
American-Iranian citizen charged with violating the US Arms Export
Control Act.

Mozaffar Khazaee, was arrested in January 2014 while attempting to
leave the US with sensitive information about two US Air Force fighter
planes.

Kremlin says it is not able to identify moderate opposition in Syria

LEAD: Russia's foreign minister Sergei lavrov met with US Secretary of State John Kerry and foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Jordan in Vienna. Syria crisis dominated the talks, which come after a surprise visit to Moscow by Syria's president Bashar al Assad this week. Pentagon faces questions over Iraq role

The military operation to rescue prisoners held by the so-called Islamic State is prompting debate in America about the role of US troops in Iraq.

The mission involving US and Kurdish forces was launched following reports that the hostages faced imminent execution.

Despite the death of one American service member in the raid, the Pentagon says that US forces are not in a "combat role" in Iraq.

Ukrainian army completes tanks pull out from the front line in Donetsk

The Ukrainian army completed the second phase of the pull out from the front line in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. The pullback began earlier this week with the pro-Russian rebels in the separatist Lugansk province also withdrawing their tanks and smaller weapons from the engagement line. Given the ceasefire maintains, this may open a door for the resolution to the 18-months long conflict in Ukraine. Daria Bondarchuk reports from the Russian capital.

Rescue mission was response to "unique" circumstances, says Pentagon

The Pentagon says the raid to rescue hostages held by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq does not represent a change in tactics by the US military.

Kurdish commandos, backed by US forces, rescued dozens of prisoners in the mission.

One US soldier was killed, becoming the first known US combat fatality in Iraq since the start of the campaign against the Islamic State.  

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told reporters not to expect regular operations of this sort.

69 ISIS hostages rescued

The White House has confirmed that a joint US-Kurdish operation has led to the detention of five ISIS militants, and the rescue of nearly 70 of their prisoners.

The group of hostages, which included more than 20 members of the Iraqi Security Forces, were being held in an ISIS jail, and were facing imminent execution.

A number of ISIS fighters as well as one American serviceman were killed during the operation.

White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz made the announcement.

Two killed in sword attack at Swedish School

A pupil and teacher have been killed after a masked man armed with a sword entered a school in Sweden...

One American soldier has been killed in a raid that rescued 70 Iraqi hostages held by Islamic State.

CIA denounces Wikileaks hack

The CIA is describing the hack of an old email account owned by director John Brennan as malicious.
