EU court overturns decision to the keep Hamas on terror list

The General Court of the European Union has annulled a decision to keep the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on a list of terrorist groups.

The group is considered a terrorist organisation by the US, Israel and other nations due to its record of organized attacks.

First female bishop named

The Church of England has announced its first female bishop, which comes a month after a historic change in legislation.


Reverend Libby Lane was ordained as a deacon in 1993 and a priest in 1994,  she will become the Bishop of Stockport.

CHURCH OF ENGLAND ANNOUNCES FIRST FEMALE BISHOP

The Church of England has announced the first female bishop in its history.

The Reverend Libby Lane becomes Bishop of Stockport after a change to the Church's legislation last month.

This followed a vote by the general synod to back plans for female bishops in July.

The appointment comes twenty years after women first became priests in the Church of England.

And Libby Lane says she is well aware of the significance of her appointment.

Greek parliament seeks to elect new president

Parliamentarians in Greece are meeting for the first stage of presidential elections set to run through December.

They have three attempts to decide on a president and if one candidate cannot secure a majority, the parliament is dissolved and a national election will be called.

Apple stops online sales in Russia because of rouble volatility

Technology giant Apple says it has stopped selling its products online in Russia because the country's rouble currency is too unstable to set prices.


The rouble has lost more than 20% in value on Monday and Tuesday despite a decision by the central bank to hike interest rates.

REVIEW LAUNCHED INTO SYDNEY HOSTAGE TAKER CHECKS

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has launched a review into security checks carried out on the Sydney cafe hostage taker.

Man Haron Monis was not on any watch list despite a criminal record, history of violence and extremist views.

Monis was killed as police raided a cafe in which he'd taken hostages on Tuesday.

Two hostages also died.

According to Iran - where Monis was originally from - Australia refused to extradite him 14 years ago.

Launching an inquiry into any background checks carried out, Prime Minister Abbott vowed to do everything in his power to keep Australians safe.

Pennsylvania shooting-spree 'suspect' found dead

A body has been found in woods near to the home of a Marine veteran suspected of killing his ex-wife and five of her relatives in suburban Philadelphia.

The District Attorney says the body was found on Tuesday afternoon by police looking for 35-year-old Bradley William Stone.

'Nut Rage' executive faces criminal investigation

The former Korean Air executive who resigned following the 'nut-rage'

Americans support torture in some cases - Poll

The majority of americans supported the use of enhanced interrorgation techniques following the 9/11 attacks - according to a poll by the Washington post ad ABC News.

THe findings showed that 53 percent of people believed the methods, revealled by a recent Senate report, DID produce useful counter-terrorism intelligence.
