Hong Kong Leader John Lee chases Middle East business deals

Hong Kong’s leader John Lee is continuing his tour of the Middle East with a visit to the United Arab Emirates. The trip is aiming to promote the city as an investment destination, and attract new listings for the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

China Refused Pentagon Call After Balloon Shootdown

China refused to take a call from top American defence officials after the US shot down an air balloon at the centre of a growing spat between the two countries.

That's according to a Pentagon spokesman, who expressed regret that its request for a call was turned down.

Japanese robbery masterminds arrested

Two men have been arrested by Japanese police on suspicion of orchestrating a series of robberies from the Philippines. 

They were deported from Manila  and arrested by police while aboard a flight to Tokyo on Tuesday. 


It comes as Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Junior begins a five day trip to Japan.

US trade deficit widened in 2022

New figures show the United States imported a record level of foreign goods in 2022.


The US trade deficit - the gap between what the country imports and exports - rose 12.2 percent last year.

U.N makes available $25 million grant for aid to Syria and Türkiye

The U.N has requested everyone to put politics aside in Syria and
allow humanitarian aid to flow into Syria.
Parts of Syria and Türkiye were hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on
Monday leaving thousands died and many more injured and destitute.

NATO Chief to hold talks with US officials in Washington DC

Turkiye & Syria rescuers work into night

Rescuers in Turkiye and Syria are working into the night to try and
find survivors trapped in the rubble of Monday's deadly earthquake.

More than 6,300 people are believed to have died.

Emergency workers release lethal gas from derailed Ohio train

Authorities have successfully drained and burned off a toxic chemical
from rail cars that derailed in Ohio.
The train came off the tracks on Friday night and hundreds of homes in
the immediate vicinity had to be evacuated as a large fire erupted.

Police release footage of fatally shot amputee

Police have released footage of the moments before a double amputee was shot by officers near Los Angeles last month.

Anthony Lowe, who was black, was killed after stabbing a man and allegedly refused to drop his knife.


But his family say he was not a threat to officers because of his disabled condition.

Biden to present economic and legislative success at State of the Union address

More Than 100 People Killed in Nigeria

The death toll from a clash between terrorists and a local security group in Nigeria's Northern State of Katsina has risen above 100, residents say.
