France using ecological resources faster than they can be replaced

France's President is days out from an inauguration that is likely to include big promises to combat climate change.

But France has struggled to meet all its commitments so far … and is still using the earth's ecological resources faster than they can be replenished.

SCRIPT:

Emmanuel Macron is promising to double down on climate goals when his second term begins this weekend.

But the President will already be "over budget" when it comes to using natural resources,  according to the World Wildlife Fund.

Thursday marks the so-called "day of overshoot" in France … meaning that the country has used MORE resources than the ecosystem can produce.

This date varies by country as you move around the globe, with some nations like Qatar using up resources in just over a month's time … while Jamaica doesn't exceed earth's regeneration abilities until mid-December.
