Corbyn re-elected as Labour leader in decisive win

The leader of Britain's opposition Labour party has appealed for unity after he decisively won a bruising leadership contest.  Jeremy Corbyn called for the Labour family to come together to oppose the sitting Conservative government, which he accused of trying to dismantle key services.

The appeal came after Corbyn won nearly 62 per cent of the half a million votes cast in the leadership ballot.     The veteran left-winger,  who was first elected a year ago, thanked his challenger Owen Smith and said all Labour supporters must now work together.   In the summer Labour MPs, who are at odds with ordinary Labour party members,   overwhelmingly passed  a no-confidence vote on Jeremy Corbyn's leadership and quit en masse from his front bench team.

Mr Corbyn used his victory speech to appeal to Labour MPs to come together to  effectively challenge  the Conservative government.

A Republican in the US House of Representatives reports the FBI gave immunity to Hillary Clinton’s former State Department Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills and two other top staffers.

And as Rachel Silverman reports, the Clinton campaign has attributed the information’s release to the proximity of the first presidential debate, coming up on Monday.
