Japan warns HQs could leave Britain over Brexit


Japan says it could move its European head offices out of Britain as a result of Brexit, the term for Britain's exit from the European Union.


Several Japanese firms in areas such as car-making, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing have head offices in the UK and employ an estimated 140,000 workers in the country.

German far-right party beats Merkel's ruling CDU into third place in local elections

The ruling party in Germany lead by chancellor Angela Merkel has lost out in local elections to a far-right, anti-Islam party. 

Mrs Merkel's CDU party came in third in elections in a northern German region behind the socialists, and then a group which holds a strong anti-immigration stance called the AfD.

Melbourne terror teen gets ten years

A Melbourne teen who planned to run down and behead a police officer in a gruesome Anzac Day terror attack will spend at least half his 20s in a cell.
19 year old Sevdet Ramadan Besim has been handed a minimum seven and a half years jail after admitting the terrifying plot that would have ended in his own death.

JAPAN WARNS UK OVER BREXIT

Japan says the country's companies with European headquarters in the UK may choose to move them if the Brexit process is not handled in a 'responsible manner'.

Japan's foreign ministry has compiled a report which warns firms may wish to leave the UK if European Union laws cease to apply in Britain.

Japanese companies employ about 140 000 workers in the UK.

Britain's new Prime Minister Theresa May insists 'Brexit means Brexit' but says the UK won't rush into starting negotiations with the EU on how it leaves the bloc.

Storm Hermine Spares East Coast But Hurricane Threat Continues

Parts of the East Coast of the US are breathing a sigh of relief after a powerful storm system has drifted further east than forecast, diminishing the threat of damage over the Labour Day holiday weekend.

Syrian Forces Push Back Rebels in Aleppo

In Syria, government forces have retaken parts of Aleppo that had fallen to rebel forces last month… and Turkish-backed fighters have driven ISIL from the Syria-Turkish border.

While the developments are significant for the fate of Syria, they also complicate attempts by the US and Russia on a ceasefire deal.

Obama And May Discuss Brexit At G20

President Obama has been meeting with the new British Prime Minister Theresa May at the G20 summit in China.


Britain's vote earlier this year to leave the European Union was top of their agenda, as Mrs. May insisted that exit negotiations would move forward.

Mother Teresa Proclaimed a Saint

OFFICIAL TASHKENT CONFIRMS UZBEKISTAN’S PRESIDENT DEATH

Uzbekistan's government officials confirmed the death of the country's long-time leader Islam Karimov. Last Sunday the 78-year-old politician suffered a stroke and several media reported on Friday the former President was dead and will be buried in his hometown on Saturday. The reports were later confirmed by official Tashkent. Daria Bondarchuk reports from the Russian capital.

FBI document release brings fresh e-mail headache for Hillary Clinton

The FBI has released 58 pages of notes taken when Hillary Clinton was interviewed by agents about her use of a private e-mail account during her time as Secretary of State.

WFP faces $50M funding shortfall for Afghanistan food aid as crises abound

As a multitude of crises around the world drive up demand for emergency food aid, the World Food Programme is now faces a funding shortfall that is threatening its operations in Afghanistan.
