UK CELEBRATES QUEEN'S 90TH

Celebrations are underway in the UK for the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

She turns 90 on Thursday, when there will be gun salutes across the UK and the lighting of a chain beacons.

The Queen is Britain's longest-serving monarch.

Release imminent for Australian TV Crew in Beirut

Charges against an Australian TV crew and mother involved in a botched Beirut kidnapping are set to be dropped.
Australia's Channel Nine will reportedly have to pay compensation to the father Ali Elamine before their release can be finalised, while members of the Child Abduction Recovery International firm still face charges.

Dutch court overturns Russia's $50bln award to former Yukos owners

A Dutch court overturned an order that obliged Russia to pay a $50 billion compensation to shareholders in defunct oil company Yukos, once Russia's largest oil producer. Moscow sees it as a victory in a battle against former Yukos owner, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who earlier claimed that the Russian government deliberately undermined his company with tax demands and eventually took control over it. QUEEN'S 90TH CELEBRATIONS BEGIN

Celebrations are starting in the UK on the eve of the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

She turns 90 on Thursday but events will actually go on until mid-June, when there will be street parties across Britain.

The Queen is Britain's longest-serving monarch and a new poll shows two-thirds of Britons believe the monarchy has an important part to play in the country's future.

FORMER TREASURY SECRETARIES WARN AGAINST BREXIT

A group of former White House advisors are warning Britain not to leave the European Union.

Eight former US Treasury Secretaries have written in the Times newspaper, saying a BREXIT would threaten London's pre-eminence as a financial capital.

They also suggest Britain will find it difficult to negotiate trade deals outside the EU.

It comes with US President Barack Obama due to visit the UK for talks on Friday with Prime Minister David Cameron at which he is expected to give his view on Britain's place in Europe.

Political reporter Theo Usherwood says campaigners who want Britain to vote to quit the EU in June are angry at US intervention.

Germany Police Raid Anti-Refugee Group

Five people have been arrested following raids by German police charged with attacking refugee shelters in East Germany.

Police had been targeting an organisation known as the Freital Group, with the attacks said to have taken place between September and November last year.

First NATO-Russia Council Held in Nearly Two Years

NYPD officers avoids jail for killing African American

A judge in New York has ruled that a Chinese-American Police Officer
will not be sent to jailed for the killing of an African American.

In February NYPD officer Peter Liang was found guilty of the
manslaughter of Akai Gurley, and could have faced 15 years behind
bars.

At sentencing that conviction was reduced to 'criminally negligent
homicide'. It's a case that has caused racial tensions and accusations
of police brutality.
