D-DAY COMMEMORATIONS BEGIN IN UK

Britain's King, Queen, Prime Minister and other dignitaries are marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Portsmouth (on Wednesday).

Events are taking place in the UK and France over the next two days.

On 6th June 1944 allied forces landed on the French coast to attack German forces in the largest naval, air and land military operation ever launched.

John Westlake crossed the English Channel to Normandy in 1944 and says he remembers it vividly.
