Queen's Speech promises to grow British economy and cut debt

The British government has pledged to grow the economy, reduce debt and cut taxes at the state opening of Parliament.

The Queen's Speech set out the government's agenda for the coming year.

The Prince of Wales delivered the speech in the House of Lords after mobility issues prevented the Queen from attending.

Prince Charles outlined policies addressing the cost of living crisis and post-Brexit regulation, saying Britain will 'continue to seize' opportunities gained from leaving the European Union.

The government also promised to tackle the backlog of patients waiting for treatment through the National Health Service, and pledged its continued support for Ukraine.

Addressing Lords and members of Parliament, Prince Charles said the Queen looked forward to marking 70 years on the throne.
