China has confirmed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is visiting Beijing - his first foreign trip since taking power in 2011.
Kim reportedly met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in what's being described as an unofficial visit.
Chinese media reports say Kim expressed his willingness to hold talks with the US and gave his commitment to denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
The White House says the meeting is evidence President Trump's policy of maximum pressure on Pyongyang is working.
US correspondent Steve Mort says while Beijing is keen to return to the center of negotiations with North Korea, Washington is likely to welcome China's intervention.
