NATO stands in solidarity with Turkey

So-called article four consultations were invoked by Turkey's new security threats after recent terror attacks by Islamic State and the Kurdish PKK.

Turkey has been launching air strikes against the two groups - which it considers equal threats despite warnings from the EU that going after Kurdish militia could unravel a long-standing ceasefire with the Kurds.

Diplomats also discussed Turkey's creation of a safe zone with the United States, which would help push back ISIS from the border.
