The Democratic Republic of Congo's health ministry has revised its
Ebola case count, removing suspected cases that have been ruled out
after investigation, as the outbreak — now confirmed across Ituri,
Nord-Kivu, and Sud-Kivu provinces — continues to evolve rapidly.
The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health
emergency of international concern in mid-May, and roughly one thousand
suspected and confirmed cases of the Bundibugyo strain have been
reported, with hundreds of deaths.
The WHO's director general has now visited Ituri province, where
authorities have suspended commercial flights and stepped up screening
of travellers heading to the nine countries that border the DRC.
