UK Police Chief Urged To Resign Over Israeli Fans Ban
A police chief in the UK is facing calls to resign, for the way they handled the banning of Israeli football fans from a European match last year.
A report found 'bias' in the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from attending the Aston Villa game in November. It also found the police 'overstated the threat' posed by the Israeli fans, whilst underplaying the risk they faced.
Chief Constable Craig Guildford, the head of West Midlands Police, has apologised and also blamed AI for giving incorrect information to MPs in a hearing after the decision was taken.
Cabinet members, including the Home Secretary, are calling on him to resign, but lack the power to force him to step down.
