The arctic island is one of the three constituent nations of the Kingdom of Denmark, a fellow NATO member.
President Trump has reignited fears over Greenland's future by saying the US needs it for its national security. His comments have been rejected by both Greenland and Denmark's leaders as well as by a number of European nations, with the UK Prime Minister saying that Greenland's future can only be decided by Greenland and Denmark.
Cabinet Minister Wes Streeting emphasised that Greenland is "already part of the team" playing its part in NATO's collective security.
