Tributes are paid to those killed in India plane crash

INTRO:  In the UK, tributes have been paid to some of the 53 Britons who were onboard the Air India flight from Ahmedabad, which was bound for London, when it crashed killing more than 240 people. 

Downing Street has warned the British public to be prepared for a significant loss of British lives. Laura Westbrook reports from London.

Trump reacts to Israel's assault on Iran

Iran says several of its top military commanders and a senior official to the country's Supreme Leader have been killed in a wave of Israeli air strikes that targeted the country's nuclear facilities.


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the military campaign will continue until he concludes the Iran no longer poses a threat to the region.


The Iranians responded with more than 100 drones targeting Israel, and accused the United States of supporting the Israeli military action.


But President Trump says the US military played no role in Israel's military assault.

Hungary’s Opposition Urges EU Leaders to Join Banned Budapest Pride

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder in France after a teaching assistant was killed at a school in eastern France on Tuesday.

The attack sparked a call from the French president to ban social media to the under-15s.

Only one survivor after Air India crashed with 242 onboard

In India, the country has woken up to the aftermath of one of the worst aviation disasters globally.


An Air India plane with 242 people - headed to London from Ahmedabad- crashed minutes after take off on Thursday.

Only one passenger survived.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now visited the site of the crash, where the focus has now shifted to gathering evidence to probe the crash.

Israel launches strikes inside Iran


Israel has confirmed it has launched an operation inside Iran with explosions heard in Tehran in the early hours of Friday local time.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the strikes hit nuclear sites inside Iran, even as Tehran has criticised the attack, calling on the world to condemn Tel Aviv's actions.

THIRD NIGHT OF UNREST IN NORTHERN IRELAND

A leisure centre's been set on fire in Northern Ireland, in a third night of unrest.

Police in Ballymena have had petrol bombs and masonry thrown at them as disorder also spread to other towns including Coleraine and Larne - in what officials have called "racist thuggery".

Violence initially grew from a protest about an alleged sexual assault.

Uneasy calm in LA as US cities brace for more protests against Trump administration immigration raids

An uneasy calm has descended over Los Angeles after the first night of a curfew lifted on Wednesday, as cities across the US brace for more protests.


President Trump is warning that his military response to the anti-ICE protests in LA may be the "first of many," saying anyone demonstrating against immigration raids in other cities could be met with "equal or greater force."

Trump declares China deal is done

US President Donald Trump has said a deal with China "is done" after two days of talks between top officials in London.

Posting on his Truth Social platform he said that, subject to final approval from President Xi Jinping and himself, the US will get the rare earth minerals it needs, while Chinese students can take up their places at American colleges.

US and China agree to framework deal to restore trade war truce

New study shows heatwaves to increase by two-fold in major Indian cities by 2030

As large parts of north India experience a record heat wave with a red alert in place, a new study has found that some of the country's biggest cities like Mumbai and Delhi will experience a two-fold increase in heatwave days by 2030.

The study says India is susceptible to extended heatwave conditions in the near future which will also trigger more erratic and incessant rainfall across the country.
