Uneasy calm in LA as US cities brace for more protests against Trump administration immigration raids

An uneasy calm has descended over Los Angeles after the first night of a curfew lifted on Wednesday, as cities across the US brace for more protests.

President Trump is warning that his military response to the anti-ICE protests in LA may be the "first of many," saying anyone demonstrating against immigration raids in other cities could be met with "equal or greater force."

A total of 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines have been deployed to help quell the unrest in LA, from where Toni Waterman reports

US CRITICISES UK OVER ISRAEL SANCTIONS

The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has criticised the UK government for sanctioning two Israeli cabinet ministers.

Marco Rubio says the restrictions being imposed on Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich don't help US efforts to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The Foreign Office says measures were imposed jointly with Australia, Norway, Canada and New Zealand because of the ministers' 'repeated incitements of violence against Palestinian civilians'.

Former UK Middle East minister Alistair Burt says the UK has the balance right.
