US-Russia talks to end Ukraine war

US Secretary of State Macro Rubio and senior Trump administration advisors are en route to Saudi Arabia to hold talks with Russian officials about ending the war in Ukraine.


The White House's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz are also being sent on behalf of President Donald Trump.


But Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia three years ago, won't have a seat at this negotiating table — and no invitation was granted to any European nations either.

Ukraine's Zelensky holds talks with US Vice-President Vance in Germany


After sharply denouncing some European leaders, US Vice President JD Vance spoke with the Ukrainian leader on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Volodymyr Zelensky reacted diplomatically in a post-meeting press conference. But neither gave away any tangible progress from the talks on movement toward a peace plan with Russia.
