Indian officials confirm 30 deaths at Kumbh Mela

Intro:

Indian officials have confirmed that 30 people have died in a stampede at the Maha Kumbh festival.

Local media reports put the number of casualties at 40 - with critics accusing officials of suppressing the extent of the tragedy.

The Maha Kumbh Mela - being held in the north Indian city of Prayagraj - is observed once every 12 years and is expected to see 400 million people attend before festivities wrap up next month.

Military helicopter and regional jet collide in Washington, multiple fatalities feared

A major search and rescue operation is underway in Washington DC after a military helicopter collided in mid-air with a commercial jetliner that was making its final approach to Ronald Reagan National Airport in the center of the city.


A total of around 60 people are feared to have been on board the two aircraft.

Israel insists laws to prevent UNRWA from operating will go ahead

Oklahoma to require proof of citizenship for students
