Qatar, the US and Egypt say they'll work together to ensure Israel and Hamas fulfil their obligations for a ceasefire in Gaza.

A deal was reached after 15 months of war, and is due to come into effect on Sunday.

The three phase agreement involves the release of the hostages by Hamas and Israeli forces withdrawing from populated areas of Gaza.

ISRAEL-HAMAS REACH CEASEFIRE

Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire deal to end 15 months of war in Gaza.

It follows repeated efforts, mediated by Qatar, to strike a truce and pause the fighting for the first time since November 2023. 

The agreement would allow hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return home, and see dozens of hostages freed after being kidnapped in the October 7th attacks, when Hamas launched a deadly assault on Israel, triggering a massive Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip that has lasted since. 

Tens of thousands of people have died in the conflict. 

The ceasefire marks a major foreign policy win for US President Joe Biden, in the closing days of his term.

Strong winds bring threats of more damage from Los Angeles fires

UK Inflation Falls Unexpectedly
