JD VANCE ACCUSED OF WALKING BACK CAMPAIGN PLEDGE FOR JAN 6 RIOTERS

Incoming US Vice President JD Vance is facing criticism from Donald Trump's staunchest supporters over comments related to the January 6 riots.

During an interview with Fox News, Mr Vance suggested not all rioters would receive a pardon from Mr Trump - angering some who felt that's what the pair had promised.

Menendez Prosecutors recommend 15 year sentence

US prosecutors have recommended former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez
be sentenced to 15 years in jail on bribery charges.

His defence team has called for more leniency given his age and years

Iranian citizen detained in Italy on U.S. warrant released


Mohammad Abedini, an Iranian citizen detained in Italy on a U.S. warrant last month, has been released and has returned to Iran.

Abedini is accused of supplying drone parts that U.S. officials say were used in an attack that killed three U.S. troops in Jordan last year.

Romania protests calling for election resumption

At least 16 dead in California fires

At least 16 people have died in California as several wildfires continue to rip through the US state.

In some neighbourhoods, attention is turning to the clean-up effort, with residents beginning to file insurance claims.

But the state's insurance market was already precarious before the fires - leaving many victims out of pocket.

LA begins to contain wildfires

Firefighters battling the wildfires in Los Angeles say they are slowly
getting parts of the blazes under control.

However, they are still a long way from containing the fires, and warn
high winds will pick up over the coming days.

At least 10 people have died, and thousands of properties have been destroyed.

TikTok faces potential ban in US after Supreme Court session

Supreme Court justices in Washington DC look set to clear the way for a law that would see TikTok banned in the United States.


The judges heard oral arguments on Friday to decide whether to uphold a bill to shut down the app in the US, unless TikTok is sold by its Chinese owner ByteDance by January 19th — that's a day before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. 


The US government says, because of the connection to China, the social media platform is a threat to national security.

UK GOV SAYS COUNTRY DOES HAVE ENOUGH GAS AFTER STORAGE WARNING

Ukraine's Zelensky tours Europe seeking support ahead of Trump inauguration
