Dangerous wildfire continues to threaten Malibu

A wildfire continues to threaten the city of Malibu, destroying at least seven homes and forcing thousands to evacuate the coastal enclave in Southern California.

CEO shooting suspect contesting extradition to New York

The man charged with murder in the shooting of a top healthcare executive is contesting extradition to New York.


Luigi Mangione is being held in the US state of Pennsylvania, where he was arrested earlier this week and charged over the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.


The suspect's attorney told reporters he planned to plead not guilty to the charges he faces in both states.

Inflation-cutting stalls in US as prices rise

Progress on cutting inflation in the US has stalled as prices rise, according to the latest data from the US government's key metric for tracking inflation levels.


The Consumer Price Index shows the  monthly inflation rate and annual inflation rate each rose by 0.1 percentage points from their October levels.

Satirical site bid for America conspiracy platform blocked

An American judge has rejected the sale of the far-right platform Infowars after its founder claimed a recent auction was fraught with illegal collusion.


A satirical news outlet — The Onion — last month won the bid to take over Alex Jones's media empire, having repeatedly spoofed the notorious conspiracy theorist.

UK Prisons Might Run Out Of Space Despite Expansion Plans

Prisons in the UK could soon be full, and new ones can't be built quick enough to keep up with demand.


That's the warning from the UK government, as the country faces overcrowding in its jails.


The government has pledged to create 14,000 more prison places by 2031, and has already overseen the early release of almost 3 thousand inmates.


The previous Conservative government has been blamed for allowing the problem to reach a critical level, and Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood says more prison places won't solve the issue of overcrowding on its own:

London Experiencing Phone Theft 'Epidemic'

It's been claimed that 64 thousand mobile phones were stolen in London last year, amid claims that the UK capital is in the grip of a phone theft 'epidemic'.


Opposition Conservative politicians are calling on the government to introduce tougher penalties for prolific criminals.


Police intelligence suggests a surge in demand for second hand phones in the UK and abroad is behind the issue. The Justice Secretary has said a summit will be held with phone manufacturers to try and work out ways to combat the problem.
