Sri Lanka is voting in a snap general election that has been called by the island nation's new president.

It's the second national election to take place in just a matter of months amid political turbulence following the country's economic crisis in 2022.

US Senators pick new leader

United States Senator John Thune will become the next Majority Leader of the US Senate after winning two rounds of votes amongst his peers.


The Republicans retook Congress's upper chamber in last week's election, and have picked the seasoned South Dakota Senator to spearhead the party. 


In Wednesday's contest he narrowly overcame John Cornyn of Texas, and convincingly beat Florida's firebrand conservative Rick Scott, who was the preferred candidate amongst Donald Trump's closest allies.

Israel misses deadline to increase aid into Gaza

The United Nations says Israel has missed a deadline set by the United
States to boost aid into Gaza.
