Taiwan reports rise in Chinese military activity as US election nears

INTRO: Taiwan's defence ministry said on Sunday it had spotted 35 Chinese military aircraft, including fighters and bombers, flying to the island's south on the way to exercises in the Pacific.

It was the second day in a row it has reported such activities, and is taking place days before Tuesday's US presidential election. Laura Westbrook has more.

Trump attacks Cheney with violent language

Donald Trump has conjured up a violent fantasy about one of his most vocal critics being shot. 


The former US President and White House hopeful said Liz Cheney — the daughter of former Vice-President Dick Cheney — should be fired upon, describing her as a "war hawk."


Ms Cheney is a former United States Congresswoman from Trump's own Republican Party, but she's endorsed the Democratic Party nominee, Vice-President Kamala Harris, in next week's election.
