UK HOLDS PEOPLE SMUGGLING SUMMIT

UK ministers are holding a summit on Friday aimed at tackling criminal people smuggling gangs.

Home Secretary Yvette Copper is gathering senior ministers, law enforcement and intelligence figures together to try and reduce small boat crossings in the English Channel.

It follows the deaths of at least 12 people when a boat sank off France on Tuesday.

Steven Smith from refugee charity Care4Calais says creating safe routes for asylum seekers is the only option.

Putin names India as potential mediator for Ukraine peace talks

Burkina Faso issues new passports without West African bloc’s logo

21 missing after migrant shipwreck off coast of Lampedusa


At least 21 people are missing after a migrant shipwreck off the coast of the Italian island of Lampedusa.

FT: Russia looked to New Delhi to source critical goods for Ukraine war

A report by the Financial Times claims that Russia tried to covertly source critical supplies from India and that it even looked at building 'facilities' to support its war in Ukraine.

UK DENIES RIFT WITH WASHINGTON OVER ISRAEL ARMS

The UK government is denying there's a rift with Washington over the suspension of some arms exports to Israel.
