Pope Francis kicks off 12-day Asia tour in Indonesia


Pope Francis has arrived in Indonesia, kicking off a 12-day tour of Asia.

It's the 87-year-old's first international trip since he pulled out of a planned visit to COP 28 in Dubai in November 2023, due to concerns over his health.

Putin says Russian forces advancing fast in Eastern Ukraine, Zelensky says otherwise

Russian President Vladimir Putin this week claimed Russian forces were advancing faster in eastern Ukraine than they have ever done in a long time. But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Moscow's troops made no further advances over the past two days.

Hundreds of Inmates Dead in Kinshasa Prison Escape


INTRO:

Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo say 129 inmates died as they tried to escape from the country's largest prison in the capital Kinshasa on Monday. 

The country's Interior Minister, Jacquemain Shabani says 24 of the inmates were shot dead by police officers and the rest died of suffocation as they jostled to flee the detention facility.

Paris authorities confirm end to elevated Olympic subway prices

The Paris transport authorities have confirmed an end to the elevated subway prices which were brought in for the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A bundle of ten tickets on the French capital's metro was priced at 35 dollars just for the summer, instead of the usual cost of 19 dollars.

Second drone attack in Manipur in two days; injures 3

Major hotel strike over pay during busy U.S. holiday weekend
