POST BREXIT BORDER CHECKS COME INTO FORCE

Long-delayed post-Brexit checks on food and plant imports to the UK have come into force.

Ministers insist the physical checks are necessary to prevent the spread of food and plant-borne diseases and will only have a 'negligible' impact on prices.

But business groups are warning they'll add billions of pounds to food bills.

Marco Forgione from the Institute of Export & International Trade says he's concerned about the short-term impact.

India's ruling and opposition parties miss deadline set by poll body

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party and the country's main opposition party Congress have not replied to a notice from the Election Commission and have sought more time.

Modi is accused of using religion to seek votes, something India's election rules prohibit.

He's alleging that the opposition will 'snatch the country's wealth' and give it to the country's 200 million Muslim residents, if voted back to power.
