Pakistan cuts internet access as voting gets underway

Internet services in Pakistan have been temporarily suspended as the country votes to elect a new government.

On the eve of the elections, two bomb blasts in the Balochistan region had killed 28 people with officials saying the interent suspension is 'warranted'.

Report Links More than 100 Websites Disguised as Local News to Beijing PR Firm


A new report linksmore than a hundred websites disguised as local news outlets pushing pro-China content to a Beijing public relations firm.

Toronto-based digital watchdog Citizen Lab says there is heightened risk of inadvertent amplification with harmful consequences.

S Korea president urging cooperation over forced labour compensation

South Korea’s president is urging businesses in the country to co-operate with companies in Japan in paying damages to the victims of historical cases of forced labour. 

It comes after Korea’s top court in December upheld decisions ordering Japanese companies to compensate the families of victims who worked without pay under Japan’s colonial rule.

US Republicans block border and aid deal

US lawmakers have voted down legislation that would bring in new border restrictions and give aid to Ukraine and Israel.


Senate Republicans blocked the bipartisan border deal and foreign aid package, by 50 votes to 49.


Now, Democrats are trying to pass a revised bill which strips out the immigration measures and only includes aid.

Haley beaten by "none of these candidates" in Nevada Primary

Republican Presidential candidate Nikki Haley has been beaten by the "none of these candidates" option in Tuesday's Nevada Primary

Salah Abdesalam sent back to France from Belgium

South Africa/Nigeria in War of Words Ahead AFCON Clash

A diplomatic row has broken out between South Africa and Nigeria ahead of a Wednesday semi-final encounter between both countries at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

 

The war of words began after Nigeria warned its citizens resident in South Africa to be watchful of their utterances and be mindful of where they watch the match, especially in public places.


The warning was intended to prevent the provocation of xenophobic attacks by frustrated South African supporters.

Inquiry launched into blast at firecracker factory in India

WILLIAM TO RESUME ROYAL DUTIES

Prince William resumes royal duties on Wednesday with King Charles having returned to Sandringham following his cancer diagnosis.

William took time away from royal engagements while his wife, the Princess of Wales, recovered from abdominal surgery.

Orca pod stuck in ice off northern Japan

About 10 Orca whales are trapped in drift ice in far northern Japan. 


According to local officials the pod was seen through a small gap in the ice about one kilometer off the coast of Hokkaido.
