Taiwan's presidential office is playing down claims that China was trying to interfere in its elections this weekend by launching a space rocket carrying a satellite that flew over the island on Tuesday. Officials in Japan are implementing emergency steps to avoid collisions at Tokyo’s Haneda airport after two aircraft crashed on the tarmac last week.

A US Navy sailor who admitted to providing sensitive military information to China has been jailed for more than two years.

Russia says it has detained a US citizen on drug charges, which could carry a 20-year prison sentence.
