'Largest attack to date' repelled in the Red Sea

British and American warships in the Red Sea repelled what they say is the largest attack to date by Houthi rebels.


The vessels are in the area to help protect shipping that's come under attack since Israeli military action began in Gaza.

Amid row with India, Maldives asks China to send more tourists

The President of Maldives, who's currently visiting China on a five-day bilateral visit, has urged Beijing to send more tourists to the island nation.

The appeal comes as scores of Indian tourists are cancelling plans to visit Maldives, following a diplomatic spat between the two countries.

This week Maldives suspended three ministers who called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "clown" and "terrorist".

India's Gujarat investment summit begins in prime minister's home state ahead of election

India's Vibrant Gujarat summit which begins on Wednesday is expected to generate billions of dollars in investment.

The three day investment summit is being held in Gujarat, the home state of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the event, as he seeks a third term in power in the general election this year.

No security clearance for first leg of Rahul Gandhi's pan-India march yet

Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's team says they are yet to get security clearance to begin a nationwide march next week.

The march was slated to start from the northeastern region of Manipur.

Rahul Gandhi plans to cover more than 6000 kilometers over 66 days spanning the breadth of the country from east to west ahead of elections later this year.

But government officials say fresh violence in the riot-hit region of Manipur means they cannot give security clearance yet.

Taiwan plays down Chinese satellite launch's possible influence on elections

Taiwan's presidential office is playing down claims that China was trying to interfere in its elections this weekend by launching a space rocket carrying a satellite that flew over the island on Tuesday. Taiwan mistakenly sent an air-raid alert to mobile phones on the island when it detected the flight.

Japan takes steps to clarify runway instructions after Haneda crash

Officials in Japan are implementing emergency steps to avoid collisions at Tokyo’s Haneda airport after two aircraft crashed on the tarmac last week.

Investigators believe vague updates from the control tower may have led a pilot to mistakenly believe he had clearance to enter the runway while another aircraft was landing.

NASA pushes back upcoming moon missions over safety concerns

NASA says it is delaying two upcoming missions to the Moon by about a year.

The US space agency's Artemis missions aim to return human beings to the lunar surface for the first time since 1972.

Palestinian Observer to UN welcomes ICJ case against Israel

The Palestinian Observer mission to the United Nations has welcomed
the move by South Africa to haul Israel before the International Court
of Justice.
South Africa filed the lawsuit accusing Israel of genocide in its war
on Gaza. It's seeking an order of the court to halt the brutal
military assault that has killed more than twenty thousand
Palestinians.
Palestinian Observer, Riyad Mansour says South Africa papers filed
with the court are crystal clear for those who are fair and objective
in listening to the articulation of the position.
He says his country will also attend the court session in the Hague
later this week.

Appeal court hears case on whether Trump has immunity in election interference case


Judges in Washington DC's appeals court have questioned arguments made by Donald Trump's lawyers that he is immune from prosecution.

They've not yet made a ruling but even once they do, the case is likely to go to the Supreme Court, all while Trump campaigns for re-election.

US Navy sailor jailed for spying for Chinese

A US Navy sailor who admitted to providing sensitive military information to China has been jailed for more than two years.

26-year-old Wenheng Zhao pleaded guilty in October to conspiring with a foreign intelligence officer and accepting a bribe.

US citizen detained in Russia

Russia says it has detained a US citizen on drug charges, which could carry a 20-year prison sentence.


Moscow's Ostankino District Court announced on Tuesday that Robert Romanov Woodland had been remanded in custody over the weekend.


He's one of several Americans being held in Russia - the US State Department has repeatedly warned all its citizens to leave the country.

Israel criticizes South Africa for taking it to the ICJ

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan has criticised
South Africa for taking it to the International Court of Justice.
South Africa filed the lawsuit at the end of December at the ICJ,
accusing Israel of genocide in its war on Gaza and seeking a halt to

Ukraine says it has deficit of anti-aircraft guided missiles after recent attacks
