US State Capitols evacuated over bomb threats

State capitol buildings have been evacuated in at least six US states
following a series of bomb threats.

Authorities responded to the threats that were reportedly emailed to
officials on Wednesday morning.

UN concerned over escalation following Arouri death

Junior doctors on strike in England

Junior doctors in England have started the new year with six days of industrial action, in a long running dispute over pay.


If it continues as planned, it will be the longest strike by doctors in National Health Service history.

Biden address to attack Trump on democracy

US President Joe Biden's re-election campaign says he'll be making a major speech this week to mark the anniversary of the attacks on the Capitol building.


His January 6th address, planned at a historic Revolutionary War site, will be used to make the case that his top rival for the Oval Office, Donald Trump, poses an existential threat to democracy.


It comes three years after a deadly riot in which a mob of supporters of then-President Trump stormed the United States Congress in Washington DC in an effort to overturn his loss to Mr Biden in 2020.

More than 100 dead in explosions in Iran

India's truck drivers call off protest after govt assurances on new hit-and-run law

Truckers in India who were on a nationwide transport strike, in protest against a new law that would enforce stringent punishment for hit-and-run cases, are back at work.

After talks with members of the All India Motor Transport Congress, the government of India assured the committee that the new law has not been implemented yet and will only be implemented after consultation with all stakeholders.

India's Supreme Court rejects demands to set up new probe into Adani

India's Supreme Court has rejected petitions to set up a new panel to investigate allegations of fraud against the Adani group, ordering the country's markets regulator to complete its probe within three months.

Investigation launched into Tokyo airport plane collision

An official investigation is underway into how a Japan Airlines passenger plane collided with a coast guard aircraft while landing at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Tuesday. 


All 379 passengers and crew managed to evacuate the commercial plane before it was engulfed in planes. 


Five of the six crew on the coast guard plane died.

Aftershocks are hampering rescue efforts as relief forces in Japan race to find survivors following Monday's deadly magnitude 7.6 earthquake.


Tremors as large as magnitude five continue to strike the badly hit Noto peninsula which was the epicenter the quake. 


Tens of thousands of households remain without power and at least 62 have died.
