UK DEFENCE MINISTRY FINED $400K FOR AFGHANISTAN DATA BREACH

Britain's defence ministry has been fined nearly $400,000 by the UK's information watchdog, for potentially exposing the details of its Afghan interpreters to the Taliban.

The breach happened in September 2021 as the UK Government tried to evacuate those who had worked for the military -- as the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.

India votes in favour of UN resolution demanding Gaza ceasefire

For the first time since the Israel-Hamas war began, India backed a UN resolution calling for a ceasefire.

Indian officials refused to explain the change in position even as experts have questioned whether this signals a change in India's pro-Israel stance.

India was among the 153 nations that voted in favour of the resolution.

BBC restructures its operations in India after allegations of tax evasion

British news broadcaster - the BBC announced that it will launch a new company for Indian languages called Collective Newsroom.

This decision to rejig its operations comes in to comply with India's foreign investment rules, which authorities claim was violated by the BBC.

Uganda Sends Delegation to the US to Salvage AGOA Deal

Quad Summit in Delhi postponed - sources

US president Joe Biden is not expected to visit India for its Republic Day parade in January, and the "Quad" leaders' summit in New Delhi is being postponed, according to reports in Indian media citing sources.

This comes amid allegations that an Indian official was involved in a plot to assassinate a Khalistan separatist in New York.

COP28 DEAL AGREED IN DUBAI

Representatives from 198 countries have agreed a climate deal at the Cop28 summit in Dubai.

The text calls on all countries to 'transition away' from the use of fossil fuels - but not to phase them out.

Climate groups say it's "severely flawed".

Myanmar Is World's Largest Source of Opium


The United Nations says Myanmar has now become the world's largest source of opium.

Biden urges Republicans to fund Ukraine conflict amid stalemate

US President Joe Biden has urged Congress to approve billions of
dollars for Ukraine, warning that not to do so would be a "Christmas
gift" for Russia's leader.

Biden met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White
House on Tuesday, amid a funding fight which has seen Republicans
refuse to support extra assistance for Kyiv.

US President Joe Biden says failing to provide additional aid to Ukraine would be the "greatest Christmas gift" to Russia's leader Vladimir Putin.

Epic Games wins lawsuit against Google over app store monopoly

A California jury has ruled that Google has been operating an illegal monopoly with its app store for Android devices.

US inflation remained moderate in November

Price increases in the US remained moderate in November, according to new inflation data.


US CPI ticked up 0.1% last month, and was up 3.1% from a year ago.


The data was published ahead of the Federal Reserve's final rate meeting of the year.

Texas Supreme Court blocks woman’s emergency abortion request

The Texas Supreme Court has overturned a lower court's order allowing a Dallas woman to get an emergency abortion. Kate Cox had made the request under the state's "medical emergency" exception after learning her fetus had a fatal condition and was unlikely to survive.  Hours before the ruling came down - Cox's lawyers announced she had left the state to terminate her pregnancy.
