Former First Lady of the United States Rosalynn Carter dies age 96

Former First Lady of the United States Rosalynn Carter has died aged 96.


A close adviser to her husband Jimmy Carter during his term as US president, Rosalynn advocated for better treatment of the mentally ill.


She died on Sunday at her home in the state of Georgia after living with dementia.

US officials say Gaza hostage deal is closer than any point before

A US official has said a deal to release hostages held in Gaza is 'closer than at any point' since negotiations began.


Deputy national security adviser Jon Finer told media on Sunday areas of disagreement have narrowed between Israel and Hamas.


There are around 240 hostages currently believed to be held in Gaza, including American citizens.


But Finer stressed an agreement was not yet in place, contrary to reports over the weekend.

US Congressman George Santos faces possible expulsion vote in coming weeks

US lawmaker George Santos could be thrown out of Congress after being hit by an expulsion resolution by a committee investigating his conduct. 


It comes as a report by that House of Representatives ethics committee details "substantial evidence" showing the first-term New York congressman "violated federal criminal laws."

Trump hits out on social media after gag order lifted

Donald Trump has hurled abuse at those involved in his New York civil fraud trial after a gag order was temporarily lifted.

On Thursday, an appeals court judge temporarily lifted the restriction placed on the former president of the United States last month.
