WHO Chief says situation at Gaza hospital is “dire”

The World Health Organization says the situation at the Al-Shifa
hospital in Gaza is dire and perilous.

Israel denies Gaza's largest hospital has lost power but says it's
helping to evacuate babies from the facility.

The Hamas run health ministry in Gaza says more than 11,000 people
have been killed since Israel began its military operation in the
enclave just over a month ago in response to a Hamas attack that
killed around 1,200 Israelis.

Biden signs up to South Carolina primary

US President Joe Biden's re-election campaign is officially registering for the Democratic primary in South Carolina — that's the first official test at the polls for an incumbent who is losing support amongst his base.

He'll face off in early February against long-shots Dean Phillips, a Minnesota congressman, and self-help guru Marianne Williamson, both seeking to become the party's nominee.

But Biden is still widely expected to win that internal contest to take on the Republican contender in the race for the Oval Office in 2024.
