India's Supreme Court examines controversial poll funding scheme

The Supreme Court of India is hearing petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the government's electoral bonds scheme, a means through which donors can fund political parties anonymously.

A controversial issue since its introduction in 2018, petitions against the scheme say that instead of introducing transparency in India's political funding system, the instrument perpetuates opacity and undermines democracy.
