Energy experts and policy makers are gathered in Singapore this week for the city state's International Energy Week.

It comes amid a series of challenges hampering efforts towards reducing global carbon emissions.

US Senator Bob Menendez pleads not guilty to foreign agent charge

US Senator Bob Menendez has pleaded not guilty to conspiring to act as a foreign agent for the Egyptian government.


The lawmaker appeared in a Manhattan court on Monday for a brief hearing, which lasted less than five minutes.


Last month the lawmaker pleaded not guilty to accepting bribes to benefit Egypt and interfere with law enforcement investigations.

US stocks mixed after 10-year yield peaks

US stocks were mixed on Monday after the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose above 5% for the first time since 2007, before retreating

Off-duty pilot arrested for trying to switch off plane's engines

An off-duty pilot has been charged with 83 counts of attempted murder
when he tried switching off the plane's engines onboard an Alaska
flight this weekend.
Joseph David Emerson was taken into custody over the weekend.
The Federal Aviation Administration, the FAA and local authorities are
investigating the incident.

US not “dictating terms” to Israel to pause ground invasion

The White House has pushed back against claims it's asked Israel to
pause plans for a ground invasion of Gaza.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Washington is not
"dictating terms" to Israel.

He said the top US priority was "going after" Hamas, as well as
getting humanitarian aid to Palestinians caught up in the conflict.

Kirby was responding to reporters' questions at the White House
briefing about the timing of an Israeli ground incursion.

US Senator Bob Menendez is due in court on Monday, charged with conspiring to act as an unregistered foreign agent for the Egyptian government.


Last month the lawmaker pleaded not guilty to accepting bribes from businessmen to benefit Egypt and interfere with law enforcement investigations.

Gaza death toll tops 5,000

The health ministry in Gaza says more than 5,000 people have been
killed since Israel started bombing the enclave just over two weeks
ago.

The United Nations says conditions are so dire in southern Gaza that
some civilians are returning north, to the very area Israel has told
them to evacuate.

According to the Israeli Defence Forces, troops carried out raids on
the Gaza Strip on Sunday to clear militant areas and get intelligence
on the missing hostages.

Detroit synagogue president murdered near home

The president of a synagogue in the US city of Detroit has been found
stabbed to death near her home.

US Republicans seek new House Speaker nominee

Second UN convoy enters Gaza
