UK SENDING MILITARY SUPPORT TO ISRAEL

The UK says it's sending military teams to the eastern Mediterranean to spot emerging threats and help with the humanitarian crisis, as Israel prepares a ground invasion to destroy Hamas.

The Prime Minister's office says the package of aircraft, ships, helicopters and marines will deliver practical support, offer deterrence, and offer assurance.

Heavy fighting around the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka, Donetsk Region

In the past few days, fighting has escalated around the town of Avdiivka, southwest of the Donetsk region, between Russian and Ukrainian forces. According to the Institute of the Study of War, Russian forces have captured about four square kilometers of land around the area.

India brings back first batch of stranded Indians from Israel

South Korea says China returns North Korean defects against their will

Australian Man Arrested Following Scoot Bomb Threat

Police in Singapore arrested a man after allegedly making a bomb threat on a Scoot flight from the city state.

The plane was bound for Perth and had to be escorted back to Changi Airport.

UN warns humanitarian situation in Gaza now "dire"

The World Food Programme is warning that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is "dire" after Israel said it will not life its blockade of the territory until Hamas frees all the Israeli and foreign hostages that it seized last weekend.

Israel admits security failures as conditions worsen for Palestinian civilians

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visits Israel

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has reasserted the United States's support for Israel during his visit to the country. 


In a press conference on Thursday, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said his nation "has Israel's back," following Saturday's Hamas-led terror attack which left more than 1,200 dead, including 25 American citizens. 


Mr Netanyahu insists the militant group should be treated "exactly" like ISIS, vowing to annihilate them by launching hundreds of air strikes in Hamas-controlled Gaza, as his military plans for an ground offensive into the Palestinian territory currently under siege. 


But Mr Blinken hinted at restraint in Israel's response, warning it's "important" to take "every possible precaution" to avoid harming innocent people.
