Republicans seeking to impeach US President Joe Biden for as-yet unproven allegations of corruption have suffered a major blow on the first day of their public investigation.


A key Republican witness conceded there is no evidence to support the case against the President.


Meanwhile, a US government shutdown is now hours away, as Republicans in the House of Representatives battle the White House over President Biden's public spending plans.

American soldier detained for months in North Korea arrives back safely on US soil

An American soldier who was detained for months in North Korea has arrived back safely on US soil. 


Travis King, a reconnaissance specialist, illegally crossed from South Korea to the North in July. 


On Wednesday, he was handed over to US officials in China, before flying to the United States.
