Indian PM Modi pushes for development and unity, ahead of next year's election

In his last Independence day address before India goes to polls next year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a pitch for re-election, reminding the country of his government's achievements in the last nine years. He also addressed the ongoing conflict in the north-eastern state of Manipur where over 130 people have died and 60,000 displaced in the last three months. Shalu Yadav reports.

Death toll from Himalayan landslides at 50

Landslides and record flooding have killed more than 50 people in north India as rain batters the country's Himalayan states.

Rescue operations continue, with officials warning the death toll could rise further.

Schools and other educational institutes in the affected states are shut, with the downpour rains expected to last till the end of the week.

Trump indicted by Georgia grand jury in 2020 election interference case

A grand jury has indicted former American President Donald Trump on charges relating to his alleged efforts to overturn his narrow 2020 electoral defeat in the US state of Georgia.

Man in Australia Charged After Threatening to Blow Up Plane


Police in Australia have charged a man who claimed to have explosives on board a flight, forcing it to return to Sydney, where it took off from.

Dozens of domestic flights were cancelled and several others were delayed because of the incident.

Death Toll Expected to Rise Further from Maui Wildfires

The death toll from last week's wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui is expected to keep rising as emergency crews continue to assess the damage.

Taiwan will "never back down" in the face of growing threats from China, according to the Vice-President of the self-governing democracy.


Whilst transiting through the United States, William Lai, a front-runner in the territory's Presidential race, said Taiwan "absolutely will not be scared nor cower."


He was making a stop in New York en route to Paraguay, where he's attending the inauguration of the South American country's newly-elected leader.

Uk Health Secretary Says Asylum Seekers Removed From Barge After Legionella Bacteria Found In Water Supply Should Be Put Back On

Asylum seekers housed on a barge off southern England should be returned to their accommodation, after Legionella bacteria was detected in the water supply, according to the UK health secretary.  


They were evacuated from the controversial barge 'Bibby Stokholm' following the detection of the bacteria. 


But now there are allegations the Government should have acted sooner, after claims health inspectors passed on the results days before the evacuations took place.

Dozens dead in South Asia floods

55 people have died in floods in Bangladesh with most deaths reported from the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar.
