Montana judge hands major victory to climate activists

A landmark climate decision out of Montana. A judge has ruled in favor of a group of young plaintiffs who have accused the state of violating their right to a healthy environment by supporting the use of fossil fuels, which are seen as a main driver of climate change. Toni Waterman has more.

Death Toll Expected to Rise Further from Maui Wildfires

The death toll from last week's wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui is expected to keep rising as emergency crews continue to assess the damage.

It's already the deadliest US wildfire in over a hundred years, with 96 people confirmed dead so far.

Taiwan will “never back down” in the face of growing threats from China, says VP in US

Taiwan will "never back down" in the face of growing threats from China, according to the Vice-President of the self-governing democracy.


Whilst transiting through the United States, William Lai, a front-runner in the territory's Presidential race, said Taiwan "absolutely will not be scared nor cower."


He was making a stop in New York en route to Paraguay, where he's attending the inauguration of the South American country's newly-elected leader.

Uk Health Secretary Says Asylum Seekers Removed From Barge After Legionella Bacteria Found In Water Supply Should Be Put Back On

Asylum seekers housed on a barge off southern England should be returned to their accommodation, after Legionella bacteria was detected in the water supply, according to the UK health secretary.  


They were evacuated from the controversial barge 'Bibby Stokholm' following the detection of the bacteria. 


But now there are allegations the Government should have acted sooner, after claims health inspectors passed on the results days before the evacuations took place.

Ryanair at loggerheads with pilots in Belgium

Dozens dead in South Asia floods

55 people have died in floods in Bangladesh with most deaths reported from the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar.  

In India, more than 20 people have died, as temples and homes in the northern Himalayan region were washed away in the flash floods caused due to a cloud burst.

BRICS Summit not immune to power cuts

Hindu groups plan another rally in violence-hit Nuh

Internet services have been restored  in a north Indian district that saw communal clashes two weeks ago.  Six people were killed in the clashes in Nuh - a region just 80 kms away from New Delhi. Violence began after a religious procession led by a hardline Hindu outfit allegedly came under attack by a mob.

But as Shalu Yadav reports, the region remains tense with a Hindu group now warning it plans to hold another procession in the area.

MAUI DEATH TOLL EXPECTED TO RISE

Officials in Hawaii say the death toll from wildfires on the island of Maui is likely to rise significantly.

At least 93 people are known to have been killed, already making it the deadliest blaze in US history.

India, China hold 19th round of military talks

China and India are holding a fresh round of talks, to resolve a border standoff that has now entered its fourth year.

The talks come less than a month before the G20 leaders summit in New Delhi next month which Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend.

Despite multiple rounds of talks, both armies still have tens of thousands of troops each, deployed at the contested border in Eastern Ladakh.

US - Japan to develop hypersonic missile interceptors

Japan and the US are agreeing to jointly develop an interceptor missile to counter hypersonic warheads being developed by China, Russia and North Korea.
