Dow hot streak continues

The hot streak on Wall Street continues with the Dow Jones up at its
highest level for over a year.

Traders this week are bracing for the Federal Reserve's interest rate
decision and some key earnings from a few tech giants.

'Barbenheimer' weekend exceeds predictions

Viewers flocked to US cinemas in record numbers over the weekend to watch the long-awaited Barbie and Oppenheimer. 


Warner Brothers' "Barbie" brought in a massive $155 million in ticket sales from North American theatres.


Meanwhile Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, made $80.5 million in the US and Canada.

Welsh Single Malt Whisky Receives UK Protected Status

Welsh whisky has been awarded a UK special protected status. 


The single-malt whisky from four Welsh distilleries will join its famous Irish and Scottish counterparts in receiving official protection.

Majority of economists see U.S. recession as unlikely

According to a new poll, the majority of economists believe it's
unlikely the U.S. will dip into a recession over the next 12 months.

That's a change from earlier this year when many believed rising
interest rates and high inflation would put the country's economy into
reverse.

BRITAIN'S LAST OPENCAST COAL MINE IN ADDITIONAL BREACH OF LICENSE

An opencast coal mine in Wales has been found in breach of its license for mining outside the permitted area, according to British media.

The operator was already in trouble for continuing to operate the mine even after planning permission expired last year.

Neither the Welsh Government nor mine operators are commenting while this latest investigation gets underway.

Evacuations Continue From Greek Islands

Evacuations are continuing as tourists and locals try and escape wildfires on some Greek islands. 


It's believed almost 20 thousand people have been evacuated from Rhodes and a further two and half thousand from Corfu.


The majority of those who have had to flee are tourists, and there's been criticism that travel firms haven't been doing enough to help people or keep them informed of the latest developments.


Despite the evacuations, local officials are urging tourists not to cancel their trips.


Thousands of those affected are British tourists and some airlines are continuing to take holidaymakers to Rhodes. UK Foreign Office minister Andrew Mitchell has said that's a decision for the firms involved:

Nigeria arraigns 12 suspected oil thieves aboard Cameroon-bound vessel

The Nigerian government has arraigned 12 suspected oil thieves in connection with a Cameroon-bound vessel laden intercepted with 150 metric tonnes of stolen crude oil.

The vessel was intercepted on July 7th on Escravos sea in Delta state, south-south Nigeria.

On board were 11 Nigerians and one Ghanaian.

Russia Foils Ukrainian Drone Attack Inbox

Officials say two drones hit non-residential buildings when they were jammed by electronic air defense.

Biden brokers AI measures with US tech firms
