Brazilian President begins China tour seeking business ties

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is beginning a tour of China to strengthen his country’s political and business ties with the world’s second largest economy. His trip comes just weeks after visiting President Joe Biden in the US.

US stocks up ahead of inflation data

US stocks were mainly up on Tuesday ahead of inflation data out on Wednesday.


This comes amid warnings from the International Monetary Fund that the US economy is likely to struggle to grow over the next few years.

US lawmakers call for tougher gun laws following latest mass shootings

Lawmakers in the US states of Kentucky and Tennessee are calling for
tougher gun laws - following mass shootings in Louisville and
Nashville in the last two weeks.

11 people died in the incidents - including 5 in a shooting at a
downtown Louisville bank on Monday.

Police say the 25-year-old gunman, who was an employee at the bank,
bought the AR-15 style rifle legally just ahead of the killings.

UN temporarily closes Afghan offices

The United Nations office in Afghanistan has told all staff to stay
home and not report for duty.
This announcement comes as the UN launches a review of its
humanitarian operations in Afghanistan, following the decision by the
Taliban authorities to ban Afghan women from working with aid
organizations.

IMF cuts global growth forecast

The International Monetary Fund has cut its global growth outlook for
this year to 2.8%, amid persistently high inflation and banking sector
vulnerabilities.

It's also warning financial system turmoil could see global output
drop to near recessionary levels.

Trump due in New York for fraud civil case

Donald Trump will return to New York this week to face questions over his company's business practices, according to sources.


The Trump Organization is accused of providing false financial statements to obtain better deals on loans and insurance - which it denies.


The former US president was last known to be in Manhattan on April 4, when he was charged with 34 felonies in a separate case.

US police confirm bank shooter was employee
